Innovations in healthcare can arise from the simplest ideas. In this episode of the IGHPE podcast series, we talk to Yaman Abou Jieb, Chief Technology Officer of Afree (Aboujaib For Renewable Energy & Electronics). During our conversation, we discuss PenCam, a device to help individuals with impaired vision, or who may even be legally blind, to read and write. Yaman presented PenCam at WISH 2018 in Doha, Qatar.

Yaman graduated from Damascus University, Faculty of Engineering. He was selected as the winner of Stars Of Science 2015 competition. Yaman was chosen as one of the best five Arab innovators under the age of 35 by MIT Technology Review and was one of three Syrian candidates to represent Syria in the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP) scientific and technology development field.

In 2018, Yaman launched his second startup PenCam, which won a special prize in the first Arab innovation academy. Yaman is currently in the USA to continue his studies in renewable energy engineering at Oregon Tech.
