Dr. Abraham Marcus, Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, ICU and Preoperative Medicine at Hamad Medical Centre (HMC) in Qatar, discusses his experience switching “from a regional health workforce to global hiring” as when he moved from the Netherlands with its well-developed health system and homogeneous Anethesiology workforce, to HMC with a rapidly changing health system and an extremely heterogeneous workforce of sixty-seven nationalities. He describes how the shift to a competency-based residency program completely changed the teaching, evaluation, and fellowship programs within the hospital.
